A Natural Alternative
Faced with climate change, reefs and dunes on beaches are the only natural alternatives to protect life and property. Studies like the ones USGS is conducting help us understand the degree of threat this coast is under. From the 60's we used the dunes to build condominiums and hotels and the reefs were impacted with the entire coast lined with cement.
In the few beach spaces that can be attempted, the restoration of dunes and reefs is the only thing that remains.
This Project will be repeated on the beaches of Isla Verde Oeste, Ocean Park and Condado on the metropolitan coast coordinated between the Coalition Restoration of Ecosystems Santurcinos, the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, DRNA, OPAS, Pro Ciudad Arrecifes, Participating Condominiums, Tourism Company, For Nature and Coalition Playas Pa'l Pueblo.
We thank Yvette Nuñez, Juan de Murcia, CRES team and Daniel Montenegro for doing this great job. Our thanks to the Pine Grove Board of Directors and Para la Naturaleza, who contributed the stumps and beach grapes, staff and planting equipment. We make proposals to finance this work but we cannot stop waiting, arms crossed.
You have to sow and put those arms in the sand because in the face of climate change there is no time to lose in an adaptation process.
