We are still awaiting the conclusion of the Management Plan.
 

This management document is extremely important in any Protected Area since it determines which, how and when the activities in the Marine Reserve should be carried out and why. The Management Plan is the guide for the Marine Reserve.
 

Isla Verde Reef Marine Reserve Law.
LAW NO. 274 OF SEPTEMBER 26, 2012

 

Section 5.- Powers and duties of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources.
 

The Secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources is ordered to develop, within a term of one hundred and twenty (120) days from the approval of this Law, in collaboration with government entities and non-profit organizations, a Plan of Co-management and compatible regulations for the administration, rehabilitation and conservation of the area described in Articles 3 and 4 of this Law, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 23 of June 20, 1972, as amended, known as " Organic Law of the Department of Natural Resources”; Law No. 150 of August 4, 1988, as amended, known as the “Natural Heritage Program Law”; Act 147-1999, as amended, known as the "Act for the Protection, Conservation, and Management of Coral Reefs in Puerto Rico"; and to the “Coastal Zone Management Program of September 1978”, established by virtue of the “Federal Coastal Zone Management Law of 1972”. Provided, further, that within the Management Plan for the Reserve, the Department will establish those uses or human activities that are not harmful compatible with the conservation of the Marine Reserve, as well as the viability of recreational activities such as surfing, snorkeling, kayaks or any other activity compatible with the conservation objectives of the area.
